I picked up this cosmic creature at the Longboard Collectors Club in June @ the Mahe Restaurant, Seal Beach. For sure, this one is a backyard shaped board while on the best hallucinogens. The board comes complete with galactical artwork, step, and channels.

Quiksilver and Free Ride generation icon, twin fin pioneer and 4x ASP world champion Mark Richards come together in the creation of a limited offering of vintage style products inspired by MR’s legacy in the surfing world.
Throughout the 70’s, Richards could usually be seen scoping out the swells in his signature tank with customized monogram logo. Thanks to Quiksilver, a re-issue of this authentic look from Mark’s competition days is now available in an eleven-piece collection.
Unique styles including 16″ and 21″ board shorts with custom embroidery, screen-printed organic cotton tees and tanks as well as a foam trucker hat with signature MR embroidery patch and a photo-real Mark Richards surf image under the visor are all part of this nostalgic capsule collection.
Mark set the standard for high performance surfing during the legendary ’75/76 North Shore season with radical flair. This collection pays tribute to his truly unique style.
In the past ten years or so, it is clear that veteran surfboard shapers have been revisting their old designs from the 60, 70’s and 80’s. Today, you can visit any surfshop and pick-up a retro board that reflects a blend of old and new outlines and materials. Check out the similarities and differences of an 80’s Al Merrick Quad (video) and a 2008 Al Merrick Retro Quad (pics).
