Cosmic Creation Twinner

I picked up this cosmic creature at the Longboard Collectors Club in June @ the Mahe Restaurant, Seal Beach.  For sure, this one is a backyard shaped board while on the best hallucinogens. The board comes complete with galactical artwork, step, and channels.

Vintage 1982 Hydro Sport Single Fin Surfboard by Jim Fuller

I scored this clean early 80’s single fin Hydro Sport surfboard by Jim Fuller. The stringer reads, “82 – 621 shape Jim Fuller”.  Dating back to the 1970’s, Jim Fuller was a renowed shaper and also a mentor to Matt Biolos, founder of …Lost Surfboards.  For more information about Fuller, Surfing Magazine acknowledges his career and contribution to surfboard shaping http://www.surfingmagazine.com/news/surfing-pulse/022504_rip/

Check out my Youtube Video of this board:

Vintage Surfboards Of The Future: Kelly Slater’s 2009 Pipeline Quiver

With all of the machine groomed surfboards of the modern era of surfing, it’s questionable what will board collectors collect 20 years from now. My prediction will be surfing professional’s experimental boards, like Kelly Slater, that were hand shaped with alternative materials, fin set-ups, etc… For now, we can only enjoy the journey.

1984 Al Merrick Vintage Quad Surfboard+ Circa 2008 Al Merrick Retro Quad Surfboard

In the past ten years or so, it is clear that veteran surfboard shapers have been revisting their old designs from the 60, 70’s and 80’s.  Today, you can visit any surfshop and pick-up a retro board that reflects a blend of old and new outlines and materials. Check out the similarities and differences of an 80’s Al Merrick Quad (video) and a 2008 Al Merrick Retro Quad (pics).
